Changing company name for Office 97

D

David Liddle

Our organization uses volume licences on our computers,
which we must track internally. We reflect this tracking
in the registered company / organization entered during
setup for Microsoft Office and Windows. Sometimes, though,
we have to make a temporary entry until we get the final
internal license number. For all 2000 products and later,
this is an easy change to make in the registry.

I had to install Office 97 on one of our machines the
other day. The registration information seems to be
handled differently -- it doesn't seem to appear at all in
the registry. (At least, a search for what I DID enter did
not produce any results.) Does someone know how I can
change the registered name and organization for Office 97
without reinstalling it?

Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

If you're talking about the information on the splash screen,
they were embedded into the program files in Office 97 during
the installation. You can change the user name, but not the
splash screen or the organization through Word in
Tools=>Options=>User Info.

For changing the registration data the MS approach was to
backup your files, uninstall, restart the PC then install
entering the new information at the start of the install.
