Changing Company Name

B

Bernhard Mueller

I have taken over the responsibility of about 60 Laptops as IT resposible.
Installed is Win XP Professional and Office XP.
Problem is that the "Company Name" in the "Startup Window" of the office
prooducts is wrong.
This mistake was made by an external company that delivered Laptops and
installed the software about one year ago with their own "Comany Name" as
entry during the installation.
An access to this company is not possibble because it does not exist any
more.

Due to this I have to find a solution to correct the "company name".
Partially I already had success by correcting the Registry Entry that at
least corrected the information in the application itself but not in the
Startup screen if you are f.e. starting Word. Is is there any possibility to
change this without removing and installing MS Office compleatly new?

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290528 "How to change the
company name and user name in Office XP programs". You might
have to restart the computer to make Windows recognize the new
company name in the registry.
Thanks for that info. sorry, but I did not see this article as I was
seaching the knowledgebase. My mistake was that I did not change the Key
UserInfo to OldUserInfo.
Now evrything works fine on the Laptop I just could mange to get hands on
and took only a minute.
Best Regards
Bernhard

Just an additional information:
A new entry UserInfo is generated after an office application was started.
Normally it should be ok to remove the entry OldUserInfo now without any harm
to the system.
