characters not showing in embedded fonts

I am doing a newsletter in Publisher 2003. I used Palatino Linotype for one
area. When I type a forward slash (/), it displays a symbol that looks like a
coil, for want of a better explantaion.

I am also goosey that I might have missed something like this in a smaller
area during proofing and have it "non-print" when published.

Thank you for any tips/assistance,

The font shows the "coil" in place of the / in my Publisher 2003 on the
screen and prints the "coil" in place of the / in both hardcopy and as a PDF
file. I haven't done anything to look for other missing characters as this
one is enough to make me not use Palatino in a publication Newsletter.

I have had Powertoys since the early copies, btw. They are quite handy and
I especially like being able to pick the ones I want. TweakUI didn't do it
for the font.

Puzzling about the fonts.

No problem with using Palatino (if I wanted to) in email, Word or anything
other than Publisher 2003. Also, the fonts are embedded and not subsets in
my Publications. Go figure.

Thank you for your ideas anyhow.
