That's because at the time of Entourage 2004's creation, the Mac OS (Jaguar
and Panther) still could not do proper right-to-left languages.

Have you tried the Unicode UTF-8 setting? I have never had the occasion to
do so (no one sends me Hebrew emails) but I seem to remember reading that
Entourage can _display_ Hebrew although you can't write in it. You would
also need to have some fonts that contain Hebrew characters, but you should
already have these on your Mac: Arial, Lucida Grande, Times New Roman, for
example. Your friends on PCs won't have Lucida Grande, but they should have
Arial and TNR :

I inserted those characters from the Character Palette (TNR font) into
Entourage, but not type right-to-left.

Ask your friends to set their own character format to Unicode UTF-8 rather
than some specialized Hebrew setting. (Although that shouldn't really
matter, it might.) It shouldn't matter what font they use either, but ask
them to type in Times New Roman or Arial if they can, just to check .

Mac OS 10.4 Tiger can also write Hebrew (e.g. in TextEdit and Mail). But
Entourage 2004 was already out for 2.5 years - too late. This goes to the
heart of text representation, far too deep for a simple update. I think you
can be hopeful that it might be changed in the next version - Office 2008 -
to be released in the second half of 2007. We'll see then.

If nothing else works, you'll have to view these messages in Mail instead of
Entourage - especially if you want to reply in Hebrew. But try UTF-8 first.
