Charts on maps

Hallo,
I need to represent some data on a map (as an exemple, I should give a
different colour to different areas depending on the number of sold items).
Is there a way to do it without buying other soft?
I am writing here because on the excel ng I was told that there could be a
chance... I hope

You could do this manually if you have an editable map of the area you want
to represent.

And I'm pretty sure there is software that will do this automatically, but
not for free
