Check Name shows gibberish

hi. Anybody encountered symptoms like this?

Problem :
- Outlook 2000
- When type in a name (that is in the public address book)
then click the Check Name button, a popup screen with
gibberish pops up. If we just press TAB after keying in
and don't click check name, the name can be resolved and
no error. Only IF we press the Check Name button.
- The Outlook keeps hanging. No apparent reason/area

What I've tried so far :
- Did a full system scan for virus- no virus found
- Uninstall Outlook component and reinstall Outlook
component again.

Appreciate suggestions, solution, etc.
