How do you check to see if a sent message has been read
by the recipient?

If you have set up read receipts when you send messages, the replies will
come back as a message. Note that the recipient has the option to send a
receipt or to ignore your request for one.

If you didn't request a read receipt when you sent the message, you can't.
If you did request a receipt, but the recipient refuses requests, you can't.

Besides, the real goal is to find out if the receipient _understood_ the
message, and no receipt can determine that.
