circle gradient

I created a document in Publisher 2000 that included a 2 color gradient
starteing as a circle in the center and then fading out from there. When I
open the document in Publisher 2003, the center shape is a square. I cannot
find any option in 2003 to start with a circle. Am I missing something
simple?

Ed hit upon the exact problem. The gradient from the center is only a
square, and none of the other options available in Publisher 2000 seem to be
available in 2003. Can I somehow import them from 2000?

No, you can't, as Publisher 2002 and newer use the new-style Escher drawing
engine that has been in Word since Word 97.

There is, however, a workaround.

Create a circle. Set the fill to the gradient you want, and the line to
none.
Now create a square with the same width and height as your circle. Send it
behind the circle, and set the fill colour to the outside colour of the
gradient of the circle.

Thanks Ed. I will give that a try.
