clearing read only status

I cannot clear the read only attribute of a certain Word 2002 file. I've
tried with the document open and closed. If I apply it when closed I get this
error message: an error occurred applying attributes to the file: xxx.doc
access is denied. I've also tried via ms dos using the attrib -r command...

Any more suggestions?

Is your file on a CD? If so, copy it to your hard drive first. (Files on a
CD are always read-only.) If it's already on your hard drive, then you have
a corruption either to your file or to your file system.
