In versions of Word before 2007, from the Tools menu select Options and then
go to the General tab and set the Measurement units to Inches.
In Word 2007, click on the Office button, then on Word Options in the bottom
Border, then on Advanced and scroll down to the Display Section and change
the setting for "Show measurements in units of" to inches.
