"collapse all" view within Entourage

Michelle

When viewing these Microsoft News server groups within Entourage, I like
selecting the "collapse all" under View so that I only see the topic
headers. However, this setting doesn't "stick".

If I click out of that window/folder and then back in it, the setting is
lost and everything is expanded again.

Is there a way to make this setting stick for certain folders?

Hi Michelle,

to collapse the newsgroup items, do you use View>Collapse All? There's an
easier way that'll stick, too, namely custom arrangements. Click on
View>Arrange By>Edit Custom Arrangements, and in the new window that shows
up, click on New to create a new custom arrangement. My custom arrangement
for newsgroups looks like this:

* Group items by: Subject
* Sort groups by: Sent, Newest on top
* Sort items within group by: Sent, Newest in Top
* Default display for groups: Expanded (I prefer Expanded; you will have to
choose Collapsed instead)

After you've created that custom arrangement, make sure you apply it to
every newsgroup in Entourage by clicking on View>Arrange By>[name of your
custom arrangement]. Also, custom arrangements will only work if Entourage
is set to show messages in groups (this option can be accessed in the same
menu).

That worked PERFECTLY! Thanks for the tip. I've used Entourage 2004
for a couple of years now, but haven't done any of the custom
arrangements. That did EXACTLY what I wanted it to do.

Thanks! I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference in other
situations!
