Column view

Any way to resize columns when adding attachment?

Sorry - which columns do you mean? Attachments are added to a new message
window you're writing and about to send. Message windows don't have columns.
You can keep the (horizontal, not a column) attachment pane either open or
closed. However you last left it is how it will appear the next time; just
click the disclosure triangle to see.

If you mean in the main window's Message pane, you should keep the
Attachment column always present - it takes up only a slim 1/4 inch or less
of space. It's true that you'll now have to add it to any folders you've
removed it from (it's always there by default). In future, new subfolders
you make will have the same layout.

If you're typing a new, unsaved message (which is normal), the "message" as
such doesn't exist anyway yet in any folder, so there's no attachment column
anywhere which will display it. If you save the message, it will show up in
Drafts folder; if you send the message it will show up in Sent Items folder
(or wherever a rule or IMAP option has specified). So just make sure those
folders have Attachment columns.

You may have noticed that Entourage 2004 has an optional 3-column view, with
no separate column for attachments. But I think you'll like the solution
there when you get it. (Sorry, I can't say more until it's released.)

If I'm not understanding, please explain.

Thanks Paul:
Let me try to explain clearer:

I click the ADD button

I get column view

I see 5 columns, and the column on the far right has the file I want to
attach.

A lot of these file names are truncated with ellipses........ ....... So I
can't remember which file is which.

I would like to solve this problem by enlarging this far right column, but I
don't see a way to do that. Any other ideas appreciated.

I'm afraid there's no way to change the width. Why don't you just drag and
drop the files directly from the folder to your message?

Click the button at the top left of the Add dialog to switch to list view.
You can also resize the Add dialog to get more visible space.

Oh, you're talking about the OS's Choose File dialog. I see. Finder columns
and column view, not Entourage's columns. OK.

At least in Panther, there's a button in the top toolbar area of this window
that lets you switch to List View. So when you have the correct folder
selected in the second-to-right column, click this button to switch to List
View, where you'll see the full file names. And/or drag the bottom right
corner of the window to stretch it (doesn't always behave as you'd expect in
column view).

This is the same for any application that uses the OS's Choose File or
Choose Folder dialogs - and most OS X apps use these OS windows. It will
come up often, in most apps that let you choose files or folders.

Thanks:
Yes switching to list view seems best solution. Dragging out in column view
did not make any difference, even dragging it way across two 20" monitors
