Columns and paragraphs

Word XP

I have text typed in 2 columns. Between paragraphs, I press Enter twice. If
a paragraph ends at the bottom of a column, I ofen get a blank line at the
beginning of the next column (because I pressed Enter twice between
paragraphs). What I am looking for is a Enter that will hide itself when it
is not needed--so if the paragraph ends in the middle of the column, there
will be 2 Enters after the paragraph, but if it ends at the end, the extra
Enter will be suppressed.

I believe WordPerfect does this automatically. Can Word do it and if so, how?

TIA

Don't press enter twice between paragraphs. Set spacing between them as part
of the paragraph style format. The spacing is not applied at the start of a
column or new page.
