Compare program in Word--need redlining feature like WordPerfect

I am working on a large draft document that another department is also
working on and they will be sending over their version of this document and I
need to compare documents and incorporate their changes into ours--the
documents are about 150 pages long and turnaround time is eight hours or
less. While experimenting with Word and the compare feature, I find it
unsatsfactory in my limited knowledge to be able to do this. There may be
very extensive additions and deletions and I need to know as quickly as
possible to format the original document and get it to final in the shortest
amount of time possible without having to scrutinze each line on each page.
The comments along the margins in the Word program are confusing and not
conducive to the process I need to take the document through.
