Compatibility of Word documents

P

Peter Rossiter

However I do not always install the latest version of Word on my
home PCs. Some of my friends are the same.

Although I rarely create or open Word documents which use advanced
or specialized features, does this mean that we sometimes run the
risk that the reader may not be able to see the original document
properly?

This question reads as though some of it is missing, but there is no
essential difference in the file format from Word 97 to the present and you
can always set the compatibility options to the lowest standard of your
group. This will ensure that you can read the documents. It will not ensure
that the document layout will not change, for that is largely determined by
the printer driver and font outlines. For consistency between platforms you
should be thinking PDF.
