Completely Uninstall Office XP

R

Robert Korzuch

Does anyone know of a utility that completely unistalls
Office XP. I know when you do a regular unistall of
Office XP it leaves behind a bunch of registry and
profile settings. I know that their is a utility for
Office 2000 (eraser2k.exe) but I can't find one for
Office XP. Any ideas?

Hi, Robert,

You're correct: there's no utility for Office XP. When we asked early on,
we were told that the uninstall for Office XP is as thorough as Microsoft is
willing to be, without destroying user data.

The MSFT website has instruction for complete removal of Office 97.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;254250&Product=ofw

There's also instructions for removal of Office 2000.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;219423&Product=ofw

And http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;247684&Product=ofw

But I don't see any removal for later versions, is a format and re-
install of XP the only way it can be done?

(for those who are wondering why, I had a problem and MSFT support said
I had to remove ALL of Office97 and sent the above URL so I could do
so. Needless to say, I formatted and reinstalled, much faster!)

That is my understanding, yes. For better or worse, in versions Office XP
and later, they feel Office does a better job of uninstalling, and the
uninstall is as thorough as it could / should be.

If there is a particular problem related to installation (or uninstallation)
that is needing to be solved, let's try to address the problem symptoms and
go from there.
