concatenate 4 rows...

I need to concatenate A1,B1,C1,D1 into >>> E1 , am using the formula;

=CONCATENATE(A1,B1,C1,D1)

pasted in E1, all I get is the formula, not the concatenation, what gives
???

See if it is formatted as text, format as general, then do edit>replace and
replace
= with = (yes in the find what put the equal sign and in the replace with
put the equal sign)
Many times that will force the formula to be calculated
