Concerns regarding limited functionality of Entourage

Formerly an Office (Outlook) for user on Windows, now Office:mac. Does
anyone know why in Entourage (student/teacher edition) I cannot use
various "File", "Edit", "Format", etc. functions? They are grayed out
and unusable. Outlook was extremely versatile in the way that you
could, e.g. view and organize contacts, set up the general appearance
of the program (colors, what is visible, etc.), etc. Any thoughts or
suggestions. Thanks

What is it that you are trying/needing to do? Under certain
circumstances options are not available by default. And as you are
finding the Mac version is no where near what the PC version was, is,
or will be. It has always been several steps behind in all aspects. I
keep a PC around with an old version of Outlook on it to do certain
things that the Mac version won't.

We're stuck and have to live with it.

Entourage's menus tend to change depending on what you have open.

So I would imagine, for instance, that all the options under Format are
greyed out because you don't have an HTML message window open. Since you
can only use those functions when composing an HTML message, they are only
active if that is what you are doing. And the same principle applies for the
commands on the File and Edit menus.

Student/Teacher Edition has exactly the same functionality as standard
retail, by the way. What's important is the version number, e.g., Entourage
X, Entourage 2004 (11.1 or 11.2).

Don't know what Outlook allowed you to do, but re organizing contacts, check
out Custom Views, which are quite flexible. I don't think you can do much
re colors, other than flag folder names with categories that carry
customized colors. But it's a little hard to say "no" for sure when the
question is so vague.

You should post new threads with specific questions about what you are
trying to do, if that doesn't fix it, or search the group to see if your
question has been covered in the past.
