conditional counting question

Is it possible to count cells based on if they contain a
certain letter, such as "r" or "s", does not need to be
case sensitive but cells will contain other numbers.

=COUNTIF(A:A,"*r*")

or for two:

=SUM(COUNTIF(A:A,{"*r*","*s*"}))

Note that if a cell contains an "r" AND an "s", then it
will be counted twice.
