Configure Entourage to receive Yahoo mail

I have tried several times to create an Entourage account to retrieve my
email from a Yahoo account. Each time I get to the verification step, the
"assistant" says that either my Yahoo password or user name is incorrect. I
double-checked everything but am still having problems.

So, what's the right way to configure Entourage to retrieve my Yahoo mail?

First of all, have you made sure that your Yahoo account is configured for
POP3 access? You can do so in your Yahoo webmail preferences. Additionally,
if you happen to be using a US Yahoo.com e-mail account, you'll have to
upgrade to Yahoo Plus in order to be able to use Entourage (or any other
e-mail client) to fetch your e-mails.

You can use something like MacFreePOPs
<http://www.e-link.it/macfreepops/> to create an interface between
Entourage (or any other mail client) and your webmail provider.

There's the rub. I have a regular Yahoo mail account, and I have no need to
upgrade to Yahoo plus. It's actually a secondary account for me. Thanks,
Michel.

Curious on this, as I also upgraded to Mail Plus some time ago just so I
could use POP3 access: Is it just U.S. Customers that get nailed for
another $20/year? Are you saying that non-U.S. Addresses get the POP3
access for free? If so, I wonder why it is that we (U.S. addresses) get the
burden of paying for it when the others (don't)??? I can't imagine it costs
Yahoo any real money to enable POP3 aside from responding to authentication
requests from third-party domains...

Just curious to understand the economics, uh, I meant apparent profiteering
that seems to come from this additional service.

I don't know about Yahoo's policies, but yes, most (if not all) non-US
accounts can be accessed via POP3 *without* the upgrade to Yahoo Plus.

I would assume that the more people using POP3 access, the less Yahoo can
charge for ads. Or some such. I think that's the economics of it.

Interesting. I don't know if it was always this way, but when I created my
yahoo account (well before pop3 forwarding was really popular), I created a
German account because it was fun. I've never had an troubles receiving the
emails in Entourage, Mail, even Netscape.
