Confused about Entourage Folders...

T

The Damons

I am a bit confused about the Entourage folder setup. I have a POP account
that shows up in the Inbox under ³Folders on my Computer². I have a .mac
account that shows up under its own account name with its own inbox and
folder structure (set up as an iMap account).

Is there anyway to make all the incoming messages go into the main ³Folders
On My Computer², and/or is there any way to change which accounts place
their incoming mail into the inbox under ³Folders on My Computer?²

thanks

All POP accounts put their mail into the Œon my computer¹ inbox by default.

Those with their own server entry are the Œonline¹ accounts, where mail is
stored primarily on the server and accessed from there. These are IMAP
accounts, hotmail accounts, Exchange accounts and News Accounts.

If you want the mail from your .mac account to go into the main inbox you
have two choices:

1. set up the account as a POP account. You can¹t change the type of an
existing account, so you have to make a new one. Set the type as POP, set
the receiving mail server to mail.mac.com and the sending mail server to
smtp.mac.com. Make sure the check box for Œinclude in send & receive
schedule¹ is checked. Now click on the Œadvanced sending options¹ button and
check the box for Œthis server requires authentication, and the radio button
for Œsame as receiving server¹. You can now collect all your .mac mail to
the main inbox, and it will be deleted from the server as soon as it is
collected. You can delete the original IMAP mail account now.
2. Set up a rule under the IMAP tab of the rules dialog. Set the selection
criteria to Œall mail¹ and the action to Œmove messages¹ with a target of
the main inbox.

Note that for dialup accounts POP is vastly preferable to IMAP as it
requires much less network traffic to get & display the mail, is always
available when you¹re not online and is much more robust and secure.

IMAP is great for people who access their mail from different computers, but
otherwise is definitely a second best option.
