contacts automatically added

I believe outlook express offered the option of
automatically adding contacts from sender mail, but I
cannot find how to turn this 'feature' off in Outlook
2002.

That was only a feature in the old IMO mode of Outlook. You can replicate it
in current versions with a reg hack:
