Convert ALL fields to plain text?

Is there a way to convert ALL fields in a document, including those in
headers and footers, to plain text with a single operation?

I prepare legal documents. They go through many revisions. We put the
document save timestamp in the footer so clients know which version
they are signing. We have a master document that we revise. When we
send out a draft, we save it with a revision number in the document
name. I'd like to be able to convert all fields to plain text so if I
reprint the draft document, the fields don't get updated.

You'd have to make use of the example macro that Graham Mayor presents in
the article at
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. However, be sure to replace the
line

oStory.Fields.Update

with

oStory.Fields.Unlink
