Convert Archive to Text File?

Patrick Queen

Greetings:

I'd like to convert all the e-mail in my Inbox into one long text file.
What's the best way to do such a thing?

Thanks,

Patrick

I'd like to convert all the e-mail in my Inbox into one long text file.
What's the best way to do such a thing?

Drag the Inbox to your desktop or elsewhere on your hard drive. It will make
a Inbox.mbox file with an Entourage icon (creator). Due to the Entourage
creator, double-clicking just opens it back in Entourage so don't do that
(until you want to - then it's really handy). Instead, drag it onto the
TextEdit icon in your dock. or go to File/Open in TextEdit or any other text
editor. Since .mbox is actually a text file (with a special format) it will
openly immediately in the text editor.

Since the Inbox is a special folder, you can't delete the folder as such.
But you can select all messages in it (select one and cmd-A) or, say all up
to 3 months ago by shift-clicking the oldest and most-recent-you-want-to
delete o select al in between, then delete. Then Empty Deleted Items Folder
when ready (in Tools/Run Schedule).
