convert numbers to text

I used Heading Styles for outline numbering and table of
contents. A workgroup has approved the document, and we
now refer to certain parts by their outline numbers.

I want to copy some paragraphs to another document,
bringing the original outline number with the text. I
thought I could convert number fields to text, but Paste
Special doesn't do that, save as text doesn't do
that...help!

You could use the following VBA line to 'freeze in' the numbering of
selected text.

Selection.Range.ListFormat.ConvertNumbersToText

You can either type this in the Visual Basic Editor immediate window
(Alt-F11, Ctrl-G) or, if you need to do this a lot, create a macro.

This has to be done in the original before the copy, so make sure you have a
saved copy and/or undo immediately afterwards as it will wreck non-selected
parts of the autonumbering sequence.
