Copy/Paste animation?

Is it possible to copy-paste animation effects? Is there a trick or
something I am missing? I have a project requiring LOTS of identical motion
path animations that if done by hand are going to be almost impossible to
get right in any timely manner.

You can assign a placeholder object. Apply an animation effect. Copy and
paste the object and then the animation will follow.

here is the tricky part...

Select your placeholder and then paste your desired object over the top.

I have made it work on two step animations but not tried it on more complex
varients. (ie. A spin and a motion path)
