Copying a PPT more than Quadruples Size

I just opened a 580KB PPT file made with PPT 2000 to update some text, and when I resaved it, the copy is 2837KB. I tried it again making NO changes and it still was 2837KB. So, I brought the file to work and opened it with PPT 2003 and resaved it without changing anything and now its 13087KB. How does an 8 page presentation with lo-res graphics (none larger than 65kb) go from slightly more than half a meg to almost 3 megs using the same program that created it in the first place? And then quadruples again with the newer version? Any ideas? Too many carbs???

Are you by chance saving with backward compatibility to PowerPoint 95. This will
increase your file size.

Not much luck with PP2K, but I followed some suggestions on the 13 mg PP2003 file, compressed each graphic, turned off fast save, etc --- not much help, then I turned off embed Truetype fonts and BAM! the file size went from 13 mgs to 398K !!! Guess I need to upgrade.... Thanks, all.

Ahhh. I bet the embedded font was Arial Unicode. That one's a huge monster.

You can unembed that font in PPT 2000 as well. Just do a File/Save As, but
before you hit the Save button, look for the Tools button at the top of the
dialog box. Click it and then deselect Embed True Type Fonts.

Ahhhhh....so! Thanks for that tip as well. And yes, it was Arial Unicode!
