Copying info into a Template - what causes the chaos and whats ok?

I need to create a template. I know that is not a good option to copy
durations into a new project, seems to cause chaos.

If I imput durations into a template - is that ok or will it cause
calculation problems etc further down the track

I would normaly only copy Task Names into the Gantt Chart, is it ok to copy
other fields eg text fields.

I see no problem with manually entering task Durations in a project
template, assuming that you have known "windows of opportunity" during which
each task must be completed. Furthermore, you can copy and paste both task
names and Durations if you wish. Instead of doing the copy and paste
business, why don't you simply take a completed project, clean it up to make
it look pretty, and then save it as a template using File - Save As and
setting the Save As Type value to Template (*.mpt). Just a thought. hope
