Corrupt label headings???

S

Steve Gambrill

Hi I hope someone can help me with this one!

My installation of entourage works fine BUT the labels next to the various
headings and labels are all corrupt - eg the heading label on this email is
currently called "Uwdlgev<" and the To label is currently "Vq".
This is currently the same for most of the other labels on the screen but
the icon labels and file, edit etc are all fine!

Anyone got any ideas???

Many thanks

It is probably a sign of database corruption.

Office vX:
Hold down the option key when starting Entourage and take the first option
('typical rebuild'). If this doesn¹t resolve the problems, then try an
ŒAdvanced Rebuild¹.

Office 2004:
You still call the rebuilder by holding down Option key at launch, but it
now brings up a separate app "Database Utility" (which could be launched by
double-clicking of you wish) that lives in the Office subfolder.

First of all, if you have any Office apps open, a dialog comes up that
offers to quit them.

Then you get a window with a list of your identities to select from, and
four options:

1) It has a new feature "Verify database integrity" option: this should
reduce unnecessary rebuilding. Apparently it's quite sensitive. And see 4)
below.

2) "Compact the database". (Like X's "Typical rebuild").

3) Rebuild the database. (Like X's "Advanced Rebuild")

4) "Set database preferences". Actually there's only one pref: you can turn
on "Verify database in background "which means "run automatically" and let
you know if your database needs rebuilding.

Hi Barry tried that and it did not work - I am wondering if this a corrupt
font issue?

Any other ideas?

What do you mean by 'heading labels'? Do you mean the actual subject of an
email? Or the text next to an email that should say "subject"

S

Steve Gambrill

I mean the text that should say subject or the labels along the top of the
newsgroup header listings such as from, heading, subject, sent, size etc

Cheers

Well, it may be a corrupt font, or it may be one of the support files in the
Office Application folders has become damaged.

Try re-installing Office from the CD (no need to use the 'remove office'
utility for this, just drag in a fresh copy).

Don't forget to apply all updates after re-installing.

Try re-installing Office from the CD (no need to use the 'remove office'
utility for this, just drag in a fresh copy).

But it's always better to do so. You never know, it might be one of the
preference files that's corrupt.
