Corrupt Rules File

I ran the Office Mac 2008 12.?? update. When the update completed it told me it couldn't find any installed versions of Office. I checked to see if Entourage was alive and got a message in a dialog box that said " The Rules file appears corrupt. Rules cannot be used." Entourage promptly quit.

What's wrong and how do I fix it?

I also received the same error. Just installed Office Mac 2008 yesterday.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Awesome! Just had the issue this morning, and this fix worked
flawlessly. Thanks.

I just upgraded from Mac 2008 home and student edition TO the special media edition. I received the same "the rules file appears corrupt" error. I cannot find the files noted above (Hard disk:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Microsoft Office 2001 Identities:Your Identity Folder).

Where is the Rules file stored in the Mac 2008 version on OS X 10.5.2?

Thank you

I have the same trouble -- Entourage will not open because rules appear corrupted. Followed the advice above, but there was no info about my identity listed underdocuments Office Identities, so nothing to delete.
Any other ideas?

Your data is stored here:

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities

Are you saying you have no Microsoft User Data folder or no Office 2004
Identities folder?

It helps to know what version of Entourage you are using.

I have much the same problem, cannot yet solve. Running OSX 10.5.2. Upgraded from Office 2008 student/teacher edition to full version (only because I needed Exchange Server support). Loaded full version, then tried to run the obligatory 12.0.1 update - unlike with the s/t edition, this update would not load because "application could not be found."

All Office apps work except Entourage: "Rules file appears to be corrupt. Rules cannot be used." Clicking "OK" quits the app. I found the Main Identity folder, and Rules appear ok. This is where my knowledge runs short. Double clicking on Rules attempts again to launch Entourage, which fails. I cannot rebuild Rules if I cannot launch Entourage.

Is there a solution? I now have 2 new versions of Office 2008, neither of which will run Entourage. Please help!

See this solution:

In case the above link does not work:

Quit Entourage, Drag out the Rules file. Launch Entourage. Entourage create
a new one. You will need to re-enter your rules. Take screenshots.

You could try bringing over an old Rules file from a backup (either 2004 or
2008) You will have to reset folder destinations.

Hmmmm, are these on the same drive?

Note, we are expecting a big update for Office soon. This might help with
your problems.
