"Could not open that feature. The end of file was reached."

I am running OS 10.2.8 and Office 10.1.5 on a 12" G4 PowerBook. No
new software installs since the 10.2.8 upgrade from 10.2.4 a month or
so ago.

I rebuild my entourage DB today as I do about every two or three weeks
just for good measure. This time when it started back up:

I can see the current e-mail and subfolders on the left, but if we
click on the Inbox specifically, I get the following error: "Could not
open that feature. The end of file was reached." There is no error
number accompanying the message.

I have done several advanced rebuilds. Same thing. What is odd is that
as long as I go to subfolders, I can view them in the browsing pane.
It is the Inbox that gets this error. And following that, I can not
view the subfolders either. If I quit and restart, same story. I have
trashed my preferences. I have run disk utility. I have repaired
permissions.

I created a new identity and coped the DB over to that identity's
folder and that actually worked--for a few starts. Now...same story.

Any ideas? This app is my business. I have a backup of the DB, but
that is not very reassuring given the givens. Anyone had any luck with
this with DiskWarrior or some other utility?

It could be that there's a problem caused by a specific message. What
happens if you move half the messages to a new folder? Which folder has the
problem now? Move half of whichever folder is a problem to the other folder.
Which has the problem? Keep doing this until you find the culprit. If you
only ever have a problem with the Inbox, even when you eventually get down
to 0 messages, make a Custom View of the all messages where Account is not
this Microsoft News Server (and any other news server you may have) to
exclude news messages, and sort by folder. Even though the Inbox is supposed
to be empty, you may find a ghost message that claims to live in the Inbox.
With Preview Pane off, select it and delete it and Empty Deleted Items
folder. Then do an Advanced Rebuild. Same if you discover a message with no
folder.

Thanks. Unfortunately, it was working for several hours and I did not read
this until now. And now it will not give me access to the inbox at all so I
can not try this. At least not yet.

AND there is an ADDITIONAL problem. When I click on the inbox, I get the
same error as before AND Entourage redraws the main window of the app in a
bizarre way: preview pane and toolbar within preview pain and tool bar kind
of thing.

Then the app locks and I have to force quit (Quit will not work) and I can
not navigate to other areas of the app as I could previously.

Calling all power users! Help!

Time to cut your losses. You say you have done a few Advanced Rebuilds (one
is enough) and it didn't help. The weirdnesses you describe of redrawing the
main window have nothing to do with data integrity or corruption in any
case. So chances are that your data is OK and the app got corrupted somehow.
Restore the app:

Get "Remove Office" from the Value Pack to your HD if you've never done so,
Run it, to remove all trace of Office X and its prefs. It won't touch your
data in the Microsoft User Data folder: that's safe. Now reinstall Microsoft
Office v. X from the CD, and the Value Pack. Depending on which build is on
the CD, download and install from the MacTopia website the Office Updaters
10.1.2, 10.1.4 and 10.1.5. (10.1.2 updates all previous versions.)

Now open Entourage. If it opens in a new empty Main Identity use Switch
Identities in Entourage menu to switch to your regular main identity. Is
everything OK now?

Rebuilding your database on a regular basis is NOT recommended.
