Could not parse query into a valid SQL string.

Before posting, I did search on this error and found a suggestion to
activate the "Select Method" checkbox and choose "ODBC" (which I did)
but even after repeating the query, the Merge option was disabled. Any
suggestions of how to get around this?

I'm merging to a csv text file using Word97.
Thanks for any assistance you might have to offer.
