count between one date and another

How can I count the number of cells/rows between one date and another. Colum
A starts 1 July 2004 and runs through to 30 June 2005. Somewhere else,
say J1 I would like to have a running count of the cells/rows between A1
and the current date. so on the 1 July J1 should show 1 and on the 3 Aug J1
should show 34.
