count many with COUNTIF?

Is there a way of doing this:
=COUNTIF(A1:A200;C2:C15)
without having to
=COUNTIF(A1:A200;C2)+COUNTIF(A1:A200;C3)+ ... ?

with best regards

Thank you, but no, that didn't work; I get the wrong result "0". Although I'm
not quite sure what Excel is counting...
What I want to count is strings (if that is complicating everything), i.e
'how many' of this, that and the other in A1:A200; "this, that and the other"
is specifyed in C2:C15.

This ought to be possible, one might think...
