Countif(and( Statement

Hi

I am currently trying to count some data in Excel 2000.

I have two columns and only want to count when specific
criteria matches in both columns.

I am trying to use the following command but it does not
work, has anyone got any ideas ?

=countif(and('Master Sheet'!F:F="Stage 1",'Master Sheet'!
G:G="Fred Jones"))

('Master Sheet'!G1:G1000="Fred Jones"))
