Counting cells and minusing

Hi,

I am trying to create a Theatre Booking Thingy in Excel,

Basically i would have chairs free in certain places, for example, A
is free, A2 is booked already, B1 is booked , etc, the chairs ar
A120

I need a forumla to enable me to count the number for spaces take
already, and then the number of seats avaiable for selll.

I think i can stop people from placing an order of the relevent seats
however, i think i could solve that with validation..

try something like
=COUNTIF(A120,"X")
to count all 'X' within your range

You might also play with Format|Conditional Formatting to colour booked and
unbooked seats differently
