Counting data in a range based on data in another cell

What i am trying here is to do a countif formula in a cell, but i want the
given condition to be in a different cell. For example, the condition for
the countif formulas is in cell A1. the range is B1:B25. I tried this
formula:

=countif(B1:B25,"A1")

I know i am missing something to tell excel that the condition is in cell A1
and not the value of A1. Please help!

Obviously you have to change the cell references to suit your layout. YOu
haven't said what that is, so we can't write the exact formula you need. If
you don't know how to reference cells on a different worksheet, check Help
topics on formulas and references.
