Crashing like crazy

Entourage is just crashing like crazy. I did a typical rebuild. Didn't seem
to help.

Which preferences should I trash. I would prefer not to affect my Explorer
preferences.

There used to be a navigation preference to trash is that around still?

Any other ideas appreciated. Thanks!

Update:
I may have figured it out not sure. Someone I know, very trusted sent an e
mail with attachment. Everytime I click on it the program crashes
immediately.
Any ideas still appreciated, and any answers to previous questions about
preferences still appreciated ( for now or future reference)!! thanks!!
2nd update:
This e mail can't even be deleted or moved. The second I touch it, or even
try to move it, program crashes. If I have three e mails, and delete the
other two, this bad e mail will become highlighted and program will crash.
It's still there in inbox.

Have you got the preview pane on? If you turn it off, does it crash when the
message is highlighted? If so, you probably need to do an advanced rebuild
of the database.

I had the same problem some time ago. I read somewhere how to deal with it :
select a message older then the "bad e-mail". Then, holding the shift key,
select a more recent message, thus including the "bad e-mail" in a
selection. Now trash the lot. Don't forget to recover the messages you
trashed with it and empty the trash. Well, it worked for me :)

Hurrah!
I turned off the preview pane and it deleted. Bernard, I kept your
instructions for future reference though!

1) My friend said he sent me 2 small jpegs. Any ideas why highlighting this
e mail would so consistently make program crash?

It could be the fault of his mail client that incorrectly encodes or formats
the HTML. It could have been some corruption to the data in transit. This
does happen on occasions, but fortunately it is very rare.
2)why does turning off preview pane solve problem.

Because the crash is caused when Entourage attempts to render the HTML or
Image. Turning the preview pane off prevents this rendering and allows the
message to be selected.
Thanks!!!!!
You're welcome.

Thanks for letting us know what solved your problem - not enough people do
that, and that makes answering questions rather like shooting fish in the
dark - we never know how far off the mark we are.
