create and work with mailing lists

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: pop

When I receive an email from someone on one of my mailing lists, I frequently would like to forward it to the rest of the people on that same list. However, I don't want it to go to the one who sent it originally. How do I tell Entourage not to send it to that person?

By the way, where is the "create mailing list" command in 2008? The help menu is of no help at all in this regard (as in most other simple matters).

I don't understand your problem.

Why would you want to forward the message to the same people who have
already received the message?

Entourage does not have a mailing list feature. You can create groups of
contacts but it doesn't act like a mailing list generator.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your prompt reply, Bill, but please read it again. It says "from someone on one of MY mailing lists." All but one of those people have NOT seen the email in question. I would like them to see it. But I don't want to send it back to the person (on that same list) who sent it to me. How can I temporarily eliminate that person from my "forward" mailing?

Okay, I guess it's a matter of correct terms. So where is the "groups of contacts" command? Isn't that the same as a "mailing list"?

Thanks again,

Jerry

Hi Jerry!

When I think "mailing list" I think of a service like Google Groups
where you can subscribe to a "list" where you can send messages and they
will be distributed to the rest of the subscribers. Likewise, you'd
receive messages sent from others. Entourage has a "Mailing List
Manager" just for organizing messages from mailing lists.

In Entourage you can switch to the Address Book and create groups of
contacts (File --> New --> Group). This simply allows you to send to one
group of contacts rather than picking each contact separately.

Entourage does not have any sort of tools for acting as a mailing list
server. If you have several lists then you may want to consider using
something like Google Groups instead.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Bill. We're getting there.

I've been using "groups" for years with 2004. I just couldn't remember how I created them. Thanks for clarifying.

Of more import to me at this point is the second part of my inquiry. Is there a convenient way to NOT send to one of the group members? If not, I'll just say "Please ignore if you sent me this," but that seems sort of goofy in this day of sophisticated software.

Bill,

I take your silence to mean that, to your knowledge, there is no provision in Entourage 2008 to accommodate this inconvenient awkwardness.

Perhaps you might like to suggest to the people who do this sort of thing that it would be helpful. This would keep Microsoft the leader in practical features. Whaddaya think?

Nope, my silence is that I only have scant time to read through the
newsgroups and don't often get through them in one evening's sitting
anymore. The officeformac.com portal has greatly increased traffic.

But you're right. Entourage does not have a feature to forward and omit
a name. I'm not quite sure how it would work since forwarding a message
means you're technically starting off with a *new* message. Entourage
wouldn't know to whom you do and don't want to send that new message.

Please be sure to let Microsoft know you'd like to see this feature in
future versions by using the Help --> Send Feedback mechanism in any
Office application. Be sure to describe how you think it should work.

Good luck!

This is a bit off topic, but I am wondering how many emails can an Entourage group contain total? I can't find that anywhere and I don't want to keep adding until one day Entourage explodes when it reaches it's limit and I have bits and pieces of emails and Entourage all over my desk...well something like that.

Any ideas?
