creating new excel workbook in code without opening excel

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to create a new workbook with vba
in word without opening excel. I have an excel template
(myXLtemplate.xltm), I would to create a new file based on the excel
template and save it to a new location. Working in office 2007. Thanks
in advance for any suggestions.
