Cropped pictures in XP showing up not-cropped in 97

in addition to the pictures showing up uncropped in 97,
they cannot even be re-cropped once opened in 97. Any
ideas here?

When you crop pictures in PPT, really you're just "masking" some areas
of the picture. In PPT 2002 (aka XP), if you go to the Picture toolbar
and use the Compress Pictures options, you can delete that cropped area.
Do that before opening the presentation in PPT 97.
