csv text file mapping to microsoft project

I am trying to create a mapping for a csv file to msp. When create and
try to open the text document the mapping doesn't work and I only
populate the standard columns in msp.
I am sure that I overlook a step. Can someone help?

Well, how did you map the data? Unless you map the data into the proper
Project fields (i.e. of like data type), then yes, you will receive
several import error messages and in the end all you will see is
irrelevant data in Project's standard fields. In other words, you must
know ahead of time which values in the csv file represent the task name,
duration, start, finish, etc. and then map those accordingly when you
set up the import map in the import wizard.
