Customized styles unexpectedly lose the formatting settings

Sherry

I have a user who edits the Word Heading styles and also creates new styles. She saves her heading style changes and new styles to the normal.dot. From time-to-time she will find that her styles have unexpectedly changed in their formatting. She most recently reported that she had created and saved a specific document and saved within it, all her important styles, and/or changes to Word's default styles. She opened it up and the styles had changed.

Thank you for any insight!

Hi Sherry

Make sure the document has *not* ticked the box at Tools > Templates and
Add-Ins > Automatically update document styles.

If that box is ticked, then, when the document is opened, the styles in the
document's template will be automatically copied to the document, thus
over-riding the styles in the document.

Hope this helps.

Shauna,

Thank you very much for your response. We have already made sure that Automatically Update Document Styles is not checked.
