Cut & past from Word to Entourage makes "double spacing"

Robert

When I cut in word and past into Entourage, everything comes out
double spaced. Then I have to delete the extra spaces to get what I
want. Any easy solution? (I know there is.) Thanks.

it's a "feature" of Entourage vX. It assumes that if you're using Word X,
you use paragraph spacing (in Word, go to FormatParagraph, select "Indents
and Spacing" tab, and put some figure other than 0 in the "Spacing" "After"
box) instead of inserting extra returns between paragraphs. This is the
proper way to format text in a word processor. The Œdouble return¹ method is
a hang-over from manual typewriters. There used to be complaints from
Entourage 2001 users that properly spaced text in word didn¹t display
properly when pasted into Entourage because there was no paragraph spacing.
So, MS fixed that problem and upset all the people who still use
double-return to space their paragraphs. I guess you just can¹t win them
all!

You have (at least) 4 choices:

(1) Stop using double returns between paragraphs and start using paragraph
spacing. This has to be the best option that would solve your entourage
problems and ultimately lead to better formatting and control in word.

(2) Before you copy into Entourage, strip out all double returns in Word: go
to Edit, Replace, put "^p^p" (without quotes) in the "Find what:" box and
put
"^p" in the "Replace with:" box, then find and change all. This is messy and
time consuming. You probably don¹t want to go down this route.

(3) Use double manual line breaks (shift + return) between paragraphs in
word instead of double returns. Yuk.

(4) If you only want plain text in your email and don¹t mind losing the
character formatting that was present in word, select Œpaste as plain text¹
from the Œpaste special¹ menu. The extra carriage returns will not be
inserted.
