Data base rebuild

I cannot open Entourage 08. When I attempt to do so, it tells me I have to rebuild the database in utility and then it shuts down. When I go to the database utility, there is not database listed. If I choose rebuild, my only option is to quit. Therefore, Entourage will not open.
I do receive the same data rebuild message in Excel and Word but at least they open.

How are you launching the Database Utility? Be sure to hold the Option
key down as you launch Entourage. This will launch the Database Utility
for Entourage 2008 (assuming you may have Office 2004 still installed).

After the Database Utility launches then your database will most likely
appear as "Main Identity".

Hope this helps!

I am having a similar problem.

I have been trying to recover from a problem with Entourage 2008, and
I have a copy of my identity folder restored from backup. However,
when I place this identity (renamed "Backup Identity") in my MUD
folder, it doesn't work:

1. if I double-click the database file, Ent 2008 starts up, but then
complains that the file needs to be repaired. However, the Database
Utility doesn't list the "Backup Identity" when it starts.

2. If I manually start the database utility, it doesn't list my
Backup Identity

Previously, I had no trouble getting the Database Utility to list a
different database copied from a different backup source, but
unfortunately the Database Utility claimed that the database was
broken. Now, it doesn't even find it. WHat's up with that?

Have you removed the Microsoft folder in Preferences to the desktop? Try
this and then try to open.

Can you send me a screenshot off list of your Microsoft User Data folder
with your Identity folder open?

Send me an email:

2. If I manually start the database utility, it doesn't list my

Did you move any files out of the Identity folder?

Do you still have Office 2004 installed and your Office 2004 Identity
folder?

How long have you been using Entourage 2008?

When troubleshooting, the first thing is to consider your base files.
Depending on how you upgrading Leopard, this could be the source of your
problems.

How did you install? If you updated Leopard did you use the Software updater
or did you download the combo 10.5.2 updater.

1. Upgrade Mac OS X (the default upgrade method)
2. Archive and Install
3. Erase and Install

Regardless of how you installed, I would first recommend running the Leopard
combo updater: Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update

How large is your HD? How full? (use Activity Monitor in Utilities --> click
on Disk Usage tab at the bottom of the window)

How much RAM?

What language set are you running in your OS (is it in English, for
example)? Do you use multiple languages? If yes, the what is the source and
destination languages?

Inside the Microsoft Office folder there is a folder called "Office", and
inside that folder is an item called Microsoft Component Plugin. Please
click on that item and choose Get Info from the File menu. In the dialog
that comes up, please tell me what version number is listed for this file.
