Data migration from Entourage V9 >>V12?

D

DB

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

I've got a blank slate V12.1.x installed on a 10.4.11 G4 and want to migrate all the databases from two identities and one each address book, rules, preferences and signatures files into it from V9.0.6 running on OS 9.2.2. The two databases are of non overlapping date ranges (solution to the 2 GB limit problem) and the other files are the same except for the address book. In V9 the archived mail database file is called "Messages" and there's a separate Database file which appears to be the InBox and maybe draft messages. I have no clue where the Calendar info is stored and would want that moved too.

What should I look out for?
What is the best procedure to do this? Is this a manual process?
Should the prior inbox(es) be empty, and can these be merged too?
Can both prior identities' DBs be combined into one in V12 or do I have to set up two identities for this?
What to do with the two identity's Database (Rebuild) Cache and Database Cache files?
Can the Saved Attachments folders' contents also be moved to V12 somewhere, so these remain linked with their original emails?
Where do all these files go in V12?

In the end I'd like to have it all in one identity and only V12 left installed.

TIA

Entourage 2008 has dropped import from the older versions. You could:

1) use Apple Mail to import then import from Mail
2) download the demo for 04 and use it as the importer
3) manually move over your data.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/manual_install.html>

Look in Entourage's Help for "Merge two identities."

Merging has to be done manually. If you open Entourage 2008, you can see the
file structure is entirely different. However, you cannot just replace
files in one version for a newer one. They must go through an upgrade
process. Once upgraded it's very difficult to go backwards. I suggest you
use copies of all your data and DO NOT delete anything until you get all
your data into Entourage 2008.

The only exception is the rules and signature files. From the newer versions
of Office you can drag these over, but you have to reset all your rule
folders destinations.

Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008 exports more info than prior version and
includes a new format called the Entourage archive (.rge) file. Read over
the manual install page for help. Also see this page for info on individual
files.

Is there any way to migrate calendar info from x to 2004 or 2004 to 2008? Everything written seems to only talk about email and rules/signatures, but nothing mentions calendar info. Can this be done at all?

Regarding "Entourage 2008 has dropped import from the older versions"

We're very disappointed with Microsoft for this limitation. It's problems like this which cause us all to move to other products.

yes, it can be done.

If you let E2008 upgrade the identity _everything_ should come across.
