Hi!
I'm helping a friend move her data over to her new iMac G5 from her old
beige G3 that she used with Outlook Express.
We imported the email into Entourage 2004 just fine and all her addresses
semed to have got in to. However, today she called me and said that when she
opened up Entourage all mails and addresses was gone. When I arrived at her
place I found that there was another identity created. Seemed she ran into
trouble when opening Entourage thus trying to recreate the database or
something.
Looking in the "Office 2004 Identities" folder and the "Main identity" I
noticed there were quite a few more files than usual. I don't remember
exactly now, but there was one file called "Addresses" someting and another
called "Meddelande" ("Messeges" in Swedish). Is this the same file that's
named "Database" in the english Office version? If I remember correctly
there was also a fale named "Database" beside the "Meddelande" file. At
least it's the file named "Meddelande" that contains all her emails. Its's
about 320 MB in size.
I now have a copy of the "Meddelande" (Messages) file and I've tried to
rename it to "Database" and put it in the "Main Identity" folder (for an
english version of Office 2004). When doing this it say the database has
problems and need to be rebuilt. When trying to do so in Database Utility it
comes to pass 2 for scanning valid blocks and there:
"An error occoured while attempting to rebuild your database.
The end of file was reached".
Is there anything that can be done you think?
I've opened the "Meddelande" file in BBEdit and there are some mails to be
found...
Is it possible to explain why this happened in the first place?
