Database Content corrupt

Dear Sirs
I do support for a client whose PBG4 with OS10,47. and OFFICE 2004,
1026 (the latest) shows a strange behaviour. After upgrading from
Office X it does not start up the database anymore.
Entourage hangs on the splash screen and Word does accept any input.
This behaviour happens to stop after some minutes of use of the
computer.
I have repaired permission, .plutil and rebuilt the database some time.

I could further pinpoint the problem, taking the Main Identity folder
out of the Microsoft User Data folder, quiting the login, coming back.
Then Entourage creates anthter user from scratch. This user WORKS fine
showing that the system and instalation of OFFICE are fine.

Even when IMPORTING the user data into a correctly working Database the
Database becomes corrupted.
This means that THE CONTENT is able to corrupt a Entourage Database.
Any suggestions how I could find the culprit in the users Database.
Yours
Pierre

I would try to create a new identity as you have done so far, then move th
eoriginal identity back into the 'Office 2004 identities' folder, at the
same level as the new identity (with a different name, obviously). Your
folder hierarchy should then look something like this (not all the files may
be present in the identity folder):

~/Documents/
Microsoft User Data/
Office 2004 Identities/
Main Identity/
Database
Mailing Lists
Rules
Signatures
Original Corrupt Identity/
Database
Mailing Lists
Rules
Signatures

Then, having started Entourage with the new 'main identity', try switching
to the other identity using 'switch identity' under the Entourage menu.

If that won't work, quit all office apps and locate the database utility in
'/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Database Utility', double-click
it to start it and you should be able to sleect the identity to be rebuilt.

Good luck! Please report back and let us know if it worked.

Dear Barry
thank you for your tip.
I have not yet managed to solve this problem. I dont need to create two
users, since the database always comes "alive" after some 10 minutes.
That means that I can then rebuilt it with the database manager.
However I cannot tell this to the customer. She switches on the
computer....waits for entourage to start, and it hangs on the splash
screen.
After some minutes all of a sudden the office notification start...and
then the database is usable. I used this to export ALL data into a .mre
file.
Importing this data into a new, perfeclty working database would make
it kaputt too.....whih made me conclude that the CONTENT can corrupt
the database.
Unfortunately this client is not willing to change to MAIL, something
which I suggest to all my clients, since I really do see too much
problems with Microsoft products.
Yours Pierre
