database corrupt

I am getting an error message that my email database is corrupt and I
have verified with the Entourage utility. If I have the utility repair
it, do I stand a chance of losing my emails? What might have caused
this corruption?

thanks,
david

You stand more chance of losing them if you do not repair it.

Corruption can be caused by many things - system crashes, disk errors, bugs,
cosmic rays...

Repair it. The first stage of the repair is to make a full backup, so you
will be no worse off than you are now.

Since someone else brought this up; I've been "dealing" with an apparent
database corruption issue ever since I applied the Entourage 2004 Junk Mail
update in January of this year.

Just to be clear, I'm using Entourage to connect to an SBS server with
Exchange. I keep my exchange mailbox to under 150MB, it's currently at 50MB.

Every so often (every 2 weeks or so) the Database Management Utility comes
up saying that my database is corrupted and I need to repair it. When I did
the repair the first 2 times - It just deleted my database and I was forced
to re-download all my mail from the Exchange Server. (Good thing I don't
rely on Entourage to maintain/archive my e-mail!!!)

I never had a database corruption prior to this update - 11.1.

I finally thought "screw you!" and refused to repair the database. Then, it
just repaired itself!!!

This just happened to me this weekend. Database corrupt on Friday. Cleaned
up and archived on Sat. Database corrupt when I started Entourage this
morning, I said CANCEL.

Then when I went back to check the database - it said ALL IS WELL!!

What gives???
