database corruption

Analeis

Hi:

I am very big novice here, so bear with me.

I have a new intel core duo Mac. I was on an older mac purchased in
2003. Ever since I have switched everything over I have had problem
with entourage. I am still using office v.x and loaded it on my new
mac. I then transfered all of my old files from my old computer via
firewire. It seems that office has been running very weird and logging
out all the time. I finally called apple care support today and they
said to reinstall everything as I obviously have some bugs. What
prompted the call was I tried to open entourage and I got a message
asking to rebuild the database. It tried to do the basic install and
then came up with an error and then asked if I wanted to do the advance
rebuild - that also comes up with an error message and then suggests
that I have a unbuildable corrupt database.

I have searched through the online topics and found that someone
suggested to download all the updates and that may correct the problem.
I have done that with no results.

I don't really want to buy the new 2004 version as they told me at the
apple store that the word is a new office version is being released
next year (2007). I am trying to hold off to buy the new versiom.

Any suggestions? i also see where people talk about backing up your
email files, for the future if I am starting from scratch, how do I do
that to preserve all of my emails and my contacts in case I have
another corrupt database?

Thanks for all the help ! I am a real novice

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again.
Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Several users have
reported this fixed some odd problems they were having with Entourage.

Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (Intel)

This update is recommended for all users and includes general operating
system fixes.

If the problem still exists, run "Remove Office" located in the Office 2004
--> Additional Tools folder" then apply the updates in this order:

11.3.0. (This update includes all of the improvements released in all
previous Office 2004 updates.)

11.3.2 Update

Download updates here: <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx>

Make sure you have only one daemon in your Startup Items (located in System
Preferences --> Accounts). If you see more than one Microsoft Database
daemon, delete them all and let Entourage recreate a new one.

Delete these preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/:

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist
com.microsoft.DatabaseDaemon.plist
com.microsoft.Entourage.plist
Microsoft/Entourage Preferences

If after all of this, you are still having problems determine if the problem
is your database after all. Steps to isolate the problem can be found here:
